The 343 page book contains a trove of brilliant short stories and poems that are written for middle grade children (ages 9-12), but this kind of cozy, magical fantasy can be enjoyed by everyone. True to its title, stories range along all sorts of mystical mayhem. Fairies, dragons, sorcery, spells gone wrong... these are great for bedtime reading or for general amusement. Content is sourced from 30 authors from around the world, lending diversity and variety to the book. About the Cover Medium used: Acrylic, watercolor, and ink. The title was brushed by hand, then converted to vector art. The cover background is made up of many smaller pieces of art and assembled like a collage, digitally. 2. "Missing the Boat: A Memoir"This memoir is a great read. Erika overcomes medical challenges, the loss of her beloved grandmother, and finds something to look forward to... meeting her soap opera crush in person. About the Cover This cover is based off of many pieces of individual art. The vector artwork started with hand-drawn illustrations of Erika and the boat, and then all the unique objects floating around her... The clock, the tickets, her report card, photo of her grandmother, her medical scans, a cup of coffee, a calendar, and the Days of Our Lives hourglass. Each one of the images is related to the story. 3. "The Boy and the Elephant Chess"A hero's journey, our young protagonist must beat many masters at their own game: Elephant Chess. Collides with the real life historical "fighting Elephants" in the Ming Dynasty. Ian Tan takes the reader on a journey through an ancient forest, rice paddies, and a Chinese city. Can the Boy win his quest? This version includes a bonus section on the game of Elephant Chess, keep on reading to get to that part if you love ancient board games and want to know more about it. This story was originally published in "Calliope's Collection of Mystical Mayhem". This version is available to read for FREE online, and includes two bonus full color illustrations by Emily St. Marie that won't be found in Calliope's Collection. About the Cover & Illustrations This cover was done with a tea-stained paper in order to achieve an "ancient" feel. The scenes were done in ink, with layers of watercolor and gouache added last. 4. "This Will Remain with us"During the Covid-19 pandemic Melissa R. Mendelson found herself declared an "essential worker." As she went through her daily routine confounded by new obstacles, she wrote poetry detailing how she felt, and some of the challenges she faced. This is that collection. Available in paperback and ebook. About the Cover This cover was done with ink and watercolor art to suit the theme. The book has a liminal feel, and this cover plays with space, like the poetry within the book. 5. "Live for them"Australian poet, Deborah Fullwood, wrote this collection of poetry after her ordeal with breast cancer.
